CRC MAKES ITS FIRST HIRE

Sydney startup colman rasic carrasco has made its first hire, appointing Alex Romans as Junior Creative, coming a few days after the agency's win of the Barclays Global Investors account. Romans joins CRC after a recent win at D&AD. ECD’s Rebecca Carrasco and Dejan Rasic say “The kid’s got a big future".

Why does a small start up need an ECD? Wouldn't a CD be a big enough title? I guess if it is your party you can do what you like but where do you go after ECD? 'Chief Creative Officer? Sounds cheesy.
I am worried that Creative Directors are running out of new wanky titles. Why dont we organise an organisation to think up some more that befit the grandness of our occupation. To ensure we get lots of ideas lets make the task a competition and give out awards. I know how much the ad industry like awards.

I don't think these guys will be a "small agency" for long if they are winning accounts like barclays.

I hope he wins a Lion before his first shave.

2:10 ... You'll find the "new wanky title" ECD has been around for quite a while buddy. Something you'll learn when you get out of award school, if indeed you even got in.

Why is the sky blue? Why do your nails keep growing even when you’re dead? And why do people feel compelled to be negative? Stop looking for significance in things you can’t control and get back to work. Or better still, hold your breath and see if you pass out.

The sky is blue because the light from the sun is refracted by particles in the atmosphere (look up 'refracted' in the dictionary)

Your nails don't keep growing after you die, your skin actually 'shrinks' a little giving the appearance of nail growth. (i should know, I've been dead for years - it's called 'being a copywriter')

Ok. Here's a genuinely interesting Blog question.

You've just started your own agency.

I dunno, you've got Coke, P&G, Arnotts, Sony and ANZ.

Which five creatives in Australia would you hire. Money's no object and CD's don't apply.

And why.

How can you have a ECD if there is no CD?
If there is a CD why do you need an ECD?
Where do you go after ECD? Chief ECD?
Even more Executive ECD?

If there are too many CD's and ECD's will there be rrom on the ad award entry forms for the people who come up with the ads?

5.55...where do you go after ECD?...

Retirement.

they could put company founders, directors and ecd's. they own the fucking thing. good on them. also congratz to the new kid. you must be good, you're in a good place. and welcome to the industry...a place of well wishes and friendly faces. hope you've got balls of steel son.

Ok Juniors .... An executive CD is on the management board. A CD isn't. CD's exist in big agencies where the EDC's are to busy to be across everything.

Next week we'll teach you about CEO's and MD's.

Dear 2:10pm

I found this on Wikipedia. It may be of use to you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_director

Very large agencies have multiple creative directors, each taking responsibility for a giant brand, or a collection of brands, and they usually report in to an Executive Creative Director or a Chief Creative Officer. Some agencies have both, with the ECD reporting in to the CCO. There is no universal hard-and-fast pecking order that is followed, and instances have been known where a company featuring both positions has found that it gives the potential to strip functioning authority from either position.
