HOSTIES WITH THE MOSTIES LIONS IN DIRECT HELPS AUSTRALIA TO #3 IN THE WORLD



Love ‘em or hate ‘em, those busty Lynx Jet babes with legs up to here were the stars of Cannes on day one.
Lowe Hunt Sydney’s Lynx Jet campaign, which appeared on the cover of CB in December last year, was a standout winner for Australia, picking up two Gold and one Bronze Lion for Direct. Australia was the third most awarded country in the Lions Direct – winning three Gold, a Silver and five Bronze.
The third Gold Lion went to Host Sydney for its “Enjoy Responsibly” campaign for Virgin Mobile.
The sexy Lynx Jet ‘mosties’ were just pipped at the post for the Grand Prix. The tussle for the Grand Prix was “intense” said jury president Steve Harrison, creative director of Wunderman Worldwide.
Harrison said he was among those fighting the fight for Lynx Jet to pick up the major gong: “Lynx Jet has panache and is great fun – it is a wonderful big brand idea,” he said.
He also rejected any criticism that the campaign should have generated controversy over sexism.
“It’s difficult not to be sexist when it’s Lynx deodorant. The difficulty is how do you keep interest without being in bad taste. I don’t think the campaign is sexist at all,” he added.
M&C Saatchi Sydney picked up three Bronze Lions – one for NRMA Insurance “Wallpaper” and two for its Australian Red Cross Blood Service “Blood Box” work.
Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific won a Silver Lion for IBM while BMF picked up a Bronze for its “Ted on Tap’ campaign for Lion Nathan.
Australia punched above its weight, as usual, said direct jury member Dave King, creative director, direct, M&C Saatchi Australia: “Australia ranked number three for overall gongs, which is brilliant considering the size of our market. We won the second most Gold Lions after Germany, which dominated the overall awards with five Gold out of their 15 gongs,” King said.
New Zeaand also performed admirably, winning two Gold, two Silver and one Bronze Lion.
