ANDY McKEON SAYS HI
Aussie expat Andy McKeon, the former Clemenger Hobart CD who went on to glamorous gigs in the U.S. at Wieden + Kennedy, Goodby and Strawberry Frog, will be taking on the vacant ECD gig at JWT Sydney in July. He emailed this note from New York, wher he is completing a project for TAXI:
"Hey, we are not on this planet for a long time. I'm just a hack trying to
not take life too seriously, see the world, learn from some good people and
hopefully along the way do some ads that don't suck too much. Often easier
said than done.
After 10 years away I'm looking forward to escaping George W. Bush and
getting back to Australia to work with smart, talented, positive people like
Amy, Glenn and Angus. Work-wise there seems to be some great stuff coming
out of Australian and New Zealand agencies at the moment. That just makes
life better and easier for all us. Hopefully our JWT clients will get
inspired and we can get some decent work out the door. We are certainly
going to be trying. If we fail, then I guess after a year or so, I can walk
off into a dark forest and shoot myself multiple times in the right temple.
(I am right handed.) And please don't forget, it's only advertising."

This will all go horribly wrong, JWT management are hopeless, I predict heads will roll in under six months.
the old washing machine pose, could not be closer to the truth for what the poor big guy is in for
I know an ideal dark forest in the Blue Mountains that im sure you will find perfect, get in touch and ill send you a map. Lynchy knows a few good ones in Washington State too (From his days shooting Twin Peaks).
Could he sound any less confident?
So maybe he and JWT are a good fit.
Giving jobs to ya old mates, didn't take long for you to catch the mike, russel, singo way of doin' business.
'Don't forget it's only advertising'
He'll probably do alright with that attitude and if he can avoid the nasty ad spin cycle (apologies).
I like this guy already. Self deprecating (sp?), a sense of humility, recognition of the client base jwt have. Good luck Andy.
he seems like a really cool guy. non of this bombastic bullshit. good luck.
It sounds as though he's already given up.
No, it sounds as though he's not taking it all too seriously.
Which is not a bad thing at all.
What a load of crap. Andy is one of the least self-deprecating guys I've ever met. Nice try to butter up the industry. It is good he is starting out with low expectations as they are the only ones he is likley to meet.
HA HA FUCKING HA...
A guy who asks a photographer to take a pr pic of himself sitting in a laundromat dryer looking serious, writing a pr release about how it's all a wank and not the sort of thing he takes seriously...
yeah. right.
At least he'll have some decent accounts under his control. Poor old Glenny Ryan in the Melbourne office has his hands tied on almost two thirds of the business. Ford has it's own CDs and Kraft obviously do their own work, or perhaps it's meant to look that way.
"It's only advertising"
Why the tumble dryer then?
it's in the WPP manual page 67, third para down
"when supplying new creative staff appointment photograph to industry media, candidate should strike a thoughtful pose; ideally crammed into any household whitegoods, supermarket shelf or farm machinery"
Hey Andy,
Josh been in touch yet?
