SMOOTH-E THE FRONTRUNNER FOR ASIA AT CANNES

All of the US and UK judges in Bali for the Asian Ad Awards reckon this new SmoothE campaign (8 commercials) from JEH United Bangkok is a big contender for Gold, if not Grand Prix, at Cannes this year.

Also a certain Gold Lion and a contender is the Happydent 'Palace' tvc (above) from McCann, India.

There is a Hakuhodo Japan Panasonic Batteries Titanium idea where 100 batteries were used to make a plane fly. Droga went for it at AdFest and it won Best of Show in Bali. No doubt it will win a Titanium Lion.

I've always like the Smooth-E stuff, but is it because I'm looking at it through a foreigner's eyes? I can't help but think that if put in an Australian context with Australian actors I wouldn't find it as humorous. Still, it is a tricky area to crack and it is brilliantly executed. Will take gold at Cannes for sure.

12:12- They "rock"?. I don't find them funny at all. But I never liked "Benny Hill" either.

And "brilliantly executed", 1:27?

You gotta be kidding, right?

I reckon the HappyDent ad will win the Grand Prix for a million reasons. Time for an Asian ad, yada, yada. But it's also pretty darn good.

2.13 They are not aimed at you. Aimed at the Thai audience who would love them as much as they did the first series. This campaign will beat anything that we have at Cannes and it should. Gold Lion for sure, maybe more. Who is the President of the jury at Cannes is this year? Who was President of the jury at the Bali Asian Ad Awards? Yep, same guy.
