ADELAIDE AD COMMUNITY GEARING UP FOR AADC AWARDS MONDAY NIGHT

The Adelaide Advertising and Design Club celebrates its 29th year with record entries into the AADC Awards.
Held this Monday night (April 3rd) the Club have also confirmed 450 guests will be attending the award show ceremony and dinner at the Adelaide Oval.
The judging panel was headed by Chairman of Judges, Jack Room from Badjar, Melbourne.
All judges are from interstate, making the AADC Awards one of the fairest judging systems in Australia. And where possible the AADC fly them over for the 3 days judging this weekend prior to awards.
Secrecy has always been paramount in the AADC awards ceremony, despite the award annual being printed and ready for distribution on the night.
The newly constructed AADC website at aadc.com.au will feature the awards annual in pdf format from Tuesday.

Judges from interstate. What a great idea. Whatever happened to that, MADC?

Have a great night Adelaide creatives - enjoy a fair judging system...
It is true to say some of Australia’s best creatives have come out of Adelaide.

Similar to Adelaide but a fair bit more sophisticated. The best creatives in Australia have come out of New Zealand.

It used to be the case, 6:59, but not any more. Geez, there's only two real agencies left: Clems and KWP! and none of them have much creative talent. I would say Perth is a lot better these days. And 7:21, you are wrong. What Kiwis? More like the other way around.

7.45 Name the Aussies that have set the world on fire from NZ.

8:19. I presume you are asking me to name a few Aussie expats currently in NZ that are doing good stuff? Well off the top of my head, there's Steve Back, Matty Burton and Dave Bowman at Saatchi's, Richard Maddocks, Dave Govier and Levi Slavin at Colenso BBDO, Oliver Maisey at M&C Saatchi, Lachie McPherson at Publicis Mojo, Mandy Kennedy at DDB. Top Aussie Guy Rooke recently left Colenso BBDO to join Crispin Porter in Miami.
But I can't think of one kiwi creative of note over here. Oh, from the old days, Richard Osborn. Can you think of any?

Here someone is speaking about how Perth is suddenly the hot area and in the same breath saying that there are no good Kiwis. I'm sure Andrew Tinning won't be happy.

Yes, Andrew Tinning is the one Kiwi who's any good in this entire country - and the reason why Perth is even on the ad map in recent years. (But apart from Marketforce, and to a lesser extent 303 and Gatecrasher, the other agencies are complete and utter shit, just like every agency in Adelaide, Brisbane and fucking Hobart).

Anyway, this Kiwi myth must be exposed. Currently in NZ, most of the top CDs are foreign. Mike O and Toby Talbot at Saatchi, Richard Maddocks at Colenso BBDO, Nick Worthington and Lachie McPherson at Publicis Mojo, Paul Catmur at DDB, Oliver Maisey at M&C Saatchi, Sion Scott-Wilson at Lowe, Andy Blood at Whybin TBWA, Roy Meares at MTC, and Jeneal Rohrback at Y&R.

The only Kiwi CDs of note are Duster at Clems Wellington (and now he's been elevated to CEO), plus Jeremy Taine, Josh Lancaster and Jamie Hitchcock at MTC, and Darryl Parsons at Consortium. Oh, and Drew Ayers at Adworks Ogilvy, although not sure - even he might be Aussie.

Not exactly the hottest advertising jury, is it. Who picked that lot? Emma's the only top name there and why is someone from Badjar chairman?

Alex Derwin is hot! And with him in there it definitely is a 'hung jury'

They'd be better off if the chairman of judges was a badger.

You should see what Alex Derwin can do with a greasy badger, Oooooh!

People from Adelaide don't make great creatives. They just try much, much harder. They've all got The Chip.

Which reminds me, Jack Vaughan was the only great creative to come through Adelaide. Don't think he was actually born there, but he put Y&R (exterminated in 2004) on the map in the early days.

Lionel Hunt once said, "There are only three centres of advertising in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne and Y&R Adelaide."

These days, it would be Marketforce Perth.
