i think we have plenty of talented directors sitting around waiting for work without bringing half of Scandanavia in to tout for what little there is. .... and "Thor"????? brings to mind an Ita Buttrose joke from many moons ago.....

10.49 AM,

That's Aussie protectionist bullshit.

Thor fucking rocks! Paul, good work on expanding your talent. The Scandinavians are the world's funniest people. Australian production can only be better for it.

Fuck the Scandinavians you should only use Kiwis.
Oh that's right, you do mainly...

David sure likes to share his opinions around.
Now if only he'd care to share some of his ads.

You should save the jingoism for supporting the farmers. Choose whatever director is right for the idea, not where they're from.

There used to be a time were the were very few great directors, actually very few directors, now theres heaps.
I love it becuase were I used to get ripped off during the 80's and 90's, I can now pit you all against each other like dogs and the winner I can then beat down on cost by threatning to give it to the second place director.
Its almost a perfect world.
More directors than work.
There is a God.

Keep em coming I say.

One production company hooks up some swedes. BIG DEAL. GET OVER IT. If they're good they'll get used. If they're beating you other directors maybe you need to be writing better treatments. Most of the treatments are just shallow hollow reinactments of the script that I've written. I don't want that. Bring something to the work. Come the the table with ideas! If there were 20 Garth Davis' out there we'd be in a great place but there aren't. Welcome Scandys I look forward to seeing what you've got. Ps. David is a talented man and he unlike me and the rest of us is the only one putting his name and face to his comments.

David, youre a narly looking red nut
so shut up

Scandinavian directors, great, but they all seem to come from the same f#cking mould. They should stick to directing bizzare MTV europe idents.

As for locally, theres not enough work around for Australasian directors as it is. We dont need these blonde-straight-haired kids poaching work.

12:22 PM
80's 90's? Seems youve been around along time. For your sake, just hope the Scandanavians dont send a bunch of young art directors and copy writers over to aus...boom keep on walking mate

Next time I want to do an ad with ugly people in just slightly beyond everyday situations and no lighting or editing, I'll know where to turn.

12.22 - why do i suspect you don't have any scripts to send anyone, let alone our newest Scando buddies. Done any good DLs lately?

11:55 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

i may be wrong but Id take a guess that

10.49am - is a producer
12.24pm -is a director
4.43pm - is a director
2.23pm - is a director
2.21pm - is a producer

If it is so unreasonable for overseas directors to promote themselves in this region how then is it that so many Australian directors market themselves in China, SIngapore, Hong Kong, USA, Europe, NZ? You can't be protectionist if you then expect to work in other markets yourselves.

10:43am - I wouldn't go hammering David on creativity. Read your award annuals and maybe you might see why he moved from Sydney to Amsterdam.

On Flying Fish, well done Paul on expanding the current crop of Directors in Australasia. Competition and variety can only be a good thing.
